We Do The Best We Can

Tonight I went to an event that was hosted by industry professionals to raise money for a great cause. This is the second time they host the Entertainment Designers Forum at MAD COW theater, and have hinted to many more to come.

Beyond the informative session I was able to chat a little bit with my mentor Ray Keim, friend Mike Aiello, Designer Kim Gromoll, and Art Director TJ Mannarino. I found the forum to be fun, warm, and inviting. I am sure that Stephanie Girard would have been proud. It was amazing to see that her vision and legacy was yet again supported by the creative giants of the entertainment business.

For me well I am an observer more than anything and it is difficult for me to open up in social gatherings unless I know people well, but I am getting better though. So I just listened to the great stories and contributed to the cause as best as I could. But over all I think everybody knows that this event is special.

Special thanks to Mike Aiello for the kind words, it means a lot brother!

Enjoy what is around you and don't take anything for granted. You never know when it will be replaced.

Means More To Me, Than The Cash!

I have been known to break traditional standards when it comes to my career as an artist, but to me it's more than just the cash.

I truly love what I do and that is why I feel that Deviants ( followers / fans ) love me and my work. If you have a pure heart and truly give everything for your craft, them you just like me will reap the rewards of getting more than just monetary success.

Today I reserved 10 copies of my book Zombot and set it up for donation price, before the actual release of the book. Read more about it HERE

Little By Little

So Dolls Vol.1 opening is filed away and another notch is added to the whipping stick. I had such a pleasant and wonderful time today.

For the first time ever I was able to hold a conversation lasting longer than 10 seconds with someone. The atmosphere was calm and everyone had a great time.

I am so thankful and happy. Thank you all for showing up to the show, I had such a good time and it was so good to see you all. I hope you all enjoy the prints and the series really.

Yes I have had offers to buy the originals and I thank you for that, but the series is incomplete and I need them so that I can complete Sinister's Dolls book. In the process of making the series I have taken a ton of photos that I have not posted and so that along with some tutorials, writings, and all 50 pieces will be included in the book. Once completed I will then return from the dark places I hide to have another art show. This art show will close the series and so you will see Vol. 2,3,4, and 5 but I will not have an opening for each one. I view all the volumes as one series and so tonight marks the beginning.

I know that all of you have a favorite Doll and want a print, so I am working hard to get those prints done. It will take time to get them all printed. I will have information on print sales soon so stay tuned.

Thank you all who have emailed, texted, and called me today. Thank you for the luck, best wishes, views, and everything else! Dolls Vol.1 will be up until May 9th 2011 at Blank Space Orlando, Florida. Until next time, check it out and enjoy.

I feel the love. I feel the support. I thank you little by little...

Next stop L.A.? SWEET!

Woah Nelly! Again!

I have spent the morning returning emails, and just wanted to tell you all that I am trying my best to answer them all.

There will be more information to come so please be patient. But as it stands here is what I got thus far, please repost retweet and share this to help me out. Thanks!

At the show tonight Blank Space 5pm - 10pm I will be there with prints of Key To My Heart ONLY! As far as Dolls Vol.1 is concerned. I do have Riplie prints, and Binary prints.

There is a sign up sheet for future prints of the other 9 images from the series.

The originals are not for sale. The reason why is because the series have to go to other galleries and it needs to be photographed to make prints and the final 50 images will be a book with tutorials and bonus information and event.

Please visit the event for all the info. EVENT INFO

Keep in mind the Dolls Vol.1 will be at Blank Space from April 9th thru May 9th. I will talk to the curator about doing a closing show on the last day. So if you miss the opening believe me I understand this event and the attention to the series came up just as fast for me as it did for you!

Started Out Down A Dirty Road

My 36th Birthday was great! Even though the weather was horrid, I'm sick, and yet I am at peace and filled with joy. I was reminded that even in the worst of storms I am at a safe harbour.

From co-workers, family, friends, neighbours, and everything in between I could feel the love that everyone has for me. And for that I am forever thankful and honored to have all this around me, and as always I try my best to return that love.

Sure getting my glasses today proved to me that I am getting older, but thanks to Will he was awesome with the little details to make sure I was satisfied with my new eyes.

Special thanks to my wife who knows that I don't really care much for my birthday but she played the fine route and made today very special.

I wish to thank EVERYONE that called, texted, emailed, and posted Birthday wishes today. I am so blessed to share my life with all of you. At times we get lost in thoughts and feelings and actions that may not be to someone's liking, but in the end we can not be blamed for it as we are all travelling the same path to self enlightenment.

So at 36 I have learned to not worry about things I can't control. Treat everyone with respect. Appreciate all I have around me. Love my life, family, friends, DEVIANTS, etc. And lastly no matter how wise you may feel, you, just like me, are still learning to fly....

Kite In The Breeze

Just to inform you all I will be taking a break for a while and I leave you with this. If you don't see any feeds or post on streams it doesn't mean I am gone, I just need to take care of Vudu Riplie.

Will and I talked about maybe having a blog for it like I did with Zombot but decided against it. I love posting and sharing what I create, however for this one I won't be posting much if any at all.

I will continue to update the weekly discussions, and I will read them once a week, but my interaction will be minimal. I need this to focus on the task at hand, so I hope you all understand. I can't thank you all enough for all the love and support I receive from you all constantly, I am forever grateful.

So feel free to attend or visit ( Updating constantly )

Stanger In A Strangeland

Welcome to Megacon rings clearly in my head. If you find yourself tapping into a conversation between Batman and Babydoll you know your there..

This weekend on Saturday March 26th 2011 marked my sixth year attending the convention. This time like every time I was engulfed in lots of fun times. There is no doubt that this place is the single most entertaining and interesting place to spend some time and really capture all the interesting things that the convention has to offer.

In one weekend we find the Mecca of all things Sci-fi, Comics, Anime, Horror, Games, and everything in between. As I strolled through the ever so crowded isles of the convention, I found myself thinking a lot about where I fit in in all this.

Good friends and fellow artist that I know were asking why I didn't have a booth. Why didn't I have a booth? The answer to that is simple, I just didn't have material ready for sale. Now lets get back to the juice! This blog is about me being a stranger in a strange land.

I wanted to go into the event with the thought of showing others a point of view that would help them understand the meat and potato of the convention, if they have never been. So I fired up the old camera and took a ton of pictures that can be seen HERE and also video that can be seen at the bottom.

Megacon is an annual event that provides all this in one place. The best way to explain the event is easy. If you are into Comics, Movies, Anime, Graphic Novels, Toys, Art, Games, Roll Playing, Dressing Up, TV Shows, Weapons, Steampunk, on and on and on then this is a place for you!

I don't want to go crazy writing a huge blog about it, so I will just end it here and let you experience the event like I did with my friends. Enjoy.

Riplie gets a make over?!

So after my meeting with Will Rincon I started painting some sketches for VuduRiplie and here is what I came up with.

We still don't know if we are going with a cartoon like or water color / Photoshop version so Im leaving it up to the story to tell us, but this is what I dreamed up thus far.

Sushi, Vudu, and The Foo!

So last night I had a meeting with writer and trusted friend Will Rincon at a local sushi bar that serves our favorite treats to discuss the massive project we like to call Vudu.

In the midst of great food and all the Wasabi you can stand, I brought out the trusty small black sketch book to jot down all the notes and logistics of the Graphic novel.

Everything from page count to rating was discussed. Layout, text, color, digital, traditional, time-frame, and execution of said novel was talked about over the comedic satire of my partner in crime.
One of the great traits of Will is that he can bust out with the most amazing comments that make it an absolute pleasure to be around and work with him. When it comes to work I am " Doom & Gloom " straight forward type of person, and so he reminds me that we can have fun with whatever we do.

Comments like " Dude it would great if we wrote the book backwards! " or " Mnaga style backwards where the back is the front, and we can write it in Japanese! What, bad for our demographics? ".

Shortly after I give him the look of death, we both laugh like kids because he got me yet again and the mood gets serious as we chew on sushi and sip on soup in silence. Wheels spin and whirl, and then items like this come out.

Will- " We need to bring forth an M rated book! no Kiddie shit ". And that is when I light up, Vudu is exactly that! The Twilight Zone meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Will - " Yup ".

As we pay the bill and gather our stuff, I introduce Will to a puzzle game on my phone and then we conclude with the following statements.

Sin - I'll start a real rough draft of Riplie.

Will - Cool man I'll have something by next week when we meet again.

We drive off as The Foo Fighters plays ridiculously loud and thoughts drift off into the new world of a story we want to bring to light. So needless to say Will and I have embarked on the journey that will consume our undivided attention for the next three years of our lives...

"Above, the stars watch your gracefulness,
eager to explode into infinite pieces.
They orbit you while the night silence
screams of your beauty."

Showready!

Ok We are now ready for the show!

One Of Us Gets to Drive, One Of Us Gets to Think

Soon after Vuducon 2011 I will go into my annual hibernation for a while in order to write and illustrate Vudu and I am looking for someone or multiple people to handle the weekly posting on the FACEBOOK PAGE

So what does this mean to you? Simple I have weekly topics for each day that I post up on my page and I would like to offer a chance to others to take over til I return. This would start immediately.

Your duty is simple. On the day you have selected you would post on my information stream / Wall and then post all the links in the discussion threads.

OPEN - Monday - Topic of the Week ( Current events in the news and other wise )

OPEN - Tuesday - Art tutorials ( Art theory etc. )

OPEN - Wednesday - Music ( Review / Albums to listen to )

OPEN - Thursday - Artist of the Month ( Like in the Group ) for those who where part of that.

OPEN - Friday - Movies (Review )

OPEN - Saturday ( Open to suggestion )

OPEN -Sunday ( Open to suggestion )

The plan is to bring more activity to the page and it is your chance to shine! Feel free to open up discussions, debate, etc.

Those of you out there that know me, know that I have an open door policy when it comes to art and myself as an artist. And I want to make my page a place that we can all enjoy, share, and learn from.

So if you are interested then email me snstrsin@gmail.com that way I know what day you are taking over! - Sin.

Dolls Vol. 1 COMPLETE!

So here we are roughly two weeks from when I started the project and here are the ten images that make up Volume 1 of the 5 part series of water color illustrations titled Dolls.

The idea behind this series is that I often have heard those quirky saying like " Time heals all wounds, and Your the key to my heart ", etc. You have heard them too I am sure.

So I thought hmm... what would these sayings look like if it was applied to... say Dead Dolls / Zombie Dolls. So the images are cute and fun, creepy and rude at times. But overall fun to look at. And for Gallery display that is what I want.

I wanted to return to the horror side of artwork and so I continued working on DMNS, all while searching for representation in the ever so challenging world of the Gallery that I love so much...

I was asked if I had any illustrations that can be displayed and I replied with the deer in the headlight nooooooooo blink blink. And so that triggered the creative side of my brain that makes all this stuff. And so there you have it!

The idea of selling the originals or sell prints is still well up in the air, however things have a way of changing and so this too may change. So lastly look for these to be displayed in the near future around Orlando, Florida.

Here is the logo for the Dolls Series, I finished inking it last night. ( 3.22.11 )

Thank you all for the views here on my Blog and Facebook!

So my good friend Erik from Behind The Thrills wrote up an article featuring " WHAT IF " which opens the discussion of the rumored expansion of The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter at Island's Of Adventure Universal Orlando.

I helped his project by creating some concept art for the write up and it can be seen HERE

Vudu Series

Just some news to wet your appetite! Not much has been said about the 6 part graphic novel series Vudu. But there is something brewing I assure you of this!

Let's recap! Last year at VUDU - CINEMA I released a poster with four characters on it that heralds the beginning of the novel. A sneak peek if you will. The novel will be split into parts that will serve as independent stories, meaning where ever you find yourself starting you will not be lost. It is my version of Twilight Zone / Tales From The Crypt etc.

The six stories will be written by myself and none other than.... wait for it, wait for it!!!! My good friend and amazingly talented writer Will Rincon. All those stories will later be illustrated by me and released as they get done.

I will be posting more information soon, but in the meantime check out Will's Poetry page.

SHIRTS! & LOGOS!

Horrornight Nightmares hosted an open contest for the design of their 2011 T-Shirts. I designed last years shirt and felt that I would opt out of the contest to allow others to design so that there is a sense of community within the forum. It would suit the site much better if a member of the forum designed the shirt, rather than hire me to do it. It is a neat concept that I share with the owners of the site. So I posted what I had in mind but did not enter the contest.

I felt that since they are using Glow Ink that the front of the shirt should hold the strongest graphical element and so that Scareactors ( Character actors of haunt attractions ) can easily spot the person wearing the shirt.

Website URL and tag-line would occupy the back side of the shirt as it would promote the site without having someone bother the person wearing the shirt.

I wanted something simple and that would right away reflect what the Forum is about so I went with a " Halloween / Horror " like kind of graphic and laid the name on top.

HORRORNIGHTNIGHTMARES

A little Punch Drunk is a up and coming PODCAST Show that needed some artwork done. The members of the show opened up a contest for their logo and I entered it.

The idea behind the logo is to make it versatile to where they can use it online the same as on products and Merch.

So I kept it simple with the thought of changing the color scheme without any difficulty by building the logo in layers using Photoshop. I also wanted to capture the shows personality in a graphic form so that people can relate to it and identify the show right away, not to mention attract new listeners.

The contest for the logo is now active and they are looking for the audience to decide who wins, so best of luck to all of us and hopefully A.L.P.D. will be happy with the outcome.

Make sure to listen to the PODCAST, and show them some love!
